Back in May of this year, Mugen Souls was released for Nintendo Switch. Matt reviewed it for DDNet, stating, “More than 10 years on, Mugen Souls remains a wildly entertaining little game.” In June, sequel Mugen Souls Z was announced, again for Nintendo Switch. At that time, its release window was set for September 2023, and I can now confirm that the game will be launched smack in the middle of that timeframe.
Chou-Chou is back for a new adventure in Mugen Souls Z. This time, she will be attempting to conquer the 12 Zodiac worlds with the help of new and returning frenemies. Chou-Chou and her crew will navigate between worlds in a spaceship, the G-Castle. They’ll need to cooperate with new ultimate goddess Syrma to end an ancient evil that has recently awoken.
The game features free-roaming battle maps in strategic turn-based combat, a level cap of 9,999, and the ability to deal billions of hit points of damage. Explore expansive worlds, face off against enemy ships, and meet loads of memorable characters. Charm enemies to transform them into shampuru minions, customize party members’ abilities and appearance, create new peons, and more.
This Nintendo Switch version of the game is true to the original Japanese release, featuring all prior extras (including the hot springs mini-game), addition CG gallery images, and full English language support for both text and audio. All of this, plus it’s in HD.
The game will be launched both physically and digitally, with physical standard and limited editions being sold through Playasia. Physical limited editions include the game, a manual, a two-disc soundtrack, sticker sheets, an art book, a numbered certificate, and a collector’s box.
Developed by Idea Factory in cooperation with Compile Heart, and published by Eastasiasoft, Mugen Souls Z will be released for Nintendo Switch in North America, Europe, and Hong Kong on September 14.
